PLAY & LEARN LTD

HEALTH AND WELLBEING AT SUTTON COLDFIELD

Upon the second floor, Play and Learn has its own kitchen, this is where our Nursery cook creates homely, exciting and healthy meals for the children in our care. We have a level 5 food hygiene rating and follow Startwell Birmingham’s healthy lifestyle programme. We cater for a wide range of allergies, intolerances, religious and preference diets.

PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Physical exercise is vital to your growing child, so we build on their natural desire to run and jump with daily access outside, with its climbing equipment and astro turf. As a participating nursery in the Startwell Project our Sutton staff learned how to incorporate physical games into outdoor play to increase exercise value for your child.

However, when it comes to caring for your child’s wellbeing, we know our dedicated caring Practioners are our most valuable resource. All staff hold qualifications in childcare, paediatric first aid and safeguarding and have experience in the care needs of young children. They have also gone through the Government’s Disclosure and Baring Procedure and passed our rigorous interview procedure.

YOUR KEY PERSON

Your child will be given a key person who will be responsible for coordinating your child’s care and learning needs. The aim is for you and your child to get to know one practitioner on a deeper basis, so you will feel confident to share information about your child. This bond will help you and your child settle into nursery life and provide ongoing support.

SAFEGUARDING

Safeguarding your child is of paramount importance, so we have robust procedures to ensure the highest levels of safety. All staff must pass the Government’s Disclosure and Baring Procedure, which involves providing three proofs of identity, one of which must be pictorial. In addition, references and childcare qualifications are required, and staff must give favourable office and working interviews before being offered a six month probationary position.

EQUALITY AND INCLUSION

Equality and inclusivity has always been of upmost importance to us here at Play and Learn and we would always encourage that as a core value.

At Play and Learn we promote British Values, giving the children the opportunity to experience different cultures, make their own choices, explore democracy and rule of law.

We have a wide variety of religious literature and artifacts to explore as well as an extensive array of celebrations explored through play and planning.

We have a trained, onsite Special educational needs & Disability coordinator (SendCo) who is available to observe and guide, as well as refer any children requiring additional support.

DRINKING WATER

Children are provided with fresh drinking water throughout the day and children 2 years of age and over are encouraged to develop their independence by drinking out of an open top cup.

TOILET TRAINING

At Play & Learn we aim to support families at all stages and will happily advise you when to begin toilet training and how to start. Continuity is vital at this early stage and our aim is for a seamless transition from home routines to us and back again.

FOOD & NUTRITION

A Nutritious Start – A Healthy Life

At Play and Learn we want your child to enjoy food, be confident about trying new tastes and texture and develop healthy eating habits so we use fun activities such as taste tables, growing, and eating, our own vegetables. But we still enjoy treats on special occasions. Our Sutton nursery is proud to be part of the Start Well Project, which is linked to Change 4 Life.

Our delicious nutritionally balanced menus are culturally diverse, offering a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables each day. Meals are cooked in-house and then served by staff trained in food hygiene. Fresh drinking water is available at all times and there is the choice of milk with some meals.

Our meals times are social occasions because eating with friends will encourage your child to try unfamiliar foods, as well as old favourites. Your child will learn to self serve, share pleasant conversation and develop considerate table manners.
